Book would have had his ass handed to him on a plate.  He never showed anything
close to the sort of hand to hand ability it would have needed.  Mal was a heavy
duty scrapper and got in some good shots, but as noted, only his nerve cluster
being moved allowed him to win.  He won because the Operative assumed he was
paralyzed and he let him.
 
I liked book, and yes I think he had that dark past.  I think he clearly showed
he knew the agents world.  But if he was an operative, he was a different kind
of one.

I was thinking about that after I sent the e-mail. 

I wish they had been able to go head-to-head mano-a-mano. Mal defeated The
Operative by cheating (in a sense). I think Book would have had yet another
approach.
