FWIW, if the estimates hold, Paranormal Activity 2 will arguably have the 
best opening of any horror movie ever, beating the record of $40.6 million 
set by last year's Friday the 13th reboot.  (This assumes we ignore the 
Scary Movie horror *parody* franchise, two of which had bigger openings 
than that.  It also assumes we ignore the more action-oriented monster 
movie Van Helsing, which had an opening of $51.7 million in 2004.)

Note, though, that Friday the 13th's revenues fell pretty quickly, so that 
it grossed only $65 million in total -- meaning it made almost two-thirds 
of its total revenue in its first three days alone.  It remains to be seen 
what sort of "legs" Paranormal Activity 2 will have in the long run.
