Hey, you’re the one citing the higher standard, not me.  I didn’t think that higher standard had an exception for “he/she did it first”, but it sounds like you do.    

Me, I’m fine with calling someone a lying sack of shit if they level unfounded charges of racism, homophobia, bigotry, etc. at me or a group I feel aligned with on many things like the Tea Party.  The unfounded charges demonstrate they are not interested in an intelligent exchange of ideas so I’m not inclined to make futile attempts to do that.  By the same token I’m not going to let such slanderous accusations stand without responding.  Hardball is the real politik of politics.

There is no other conceivable way to interpret that statement.  Kanye has as much admitted that and FWIW I respect him for that even thought I thought he was a complete ahole and idtiot for saying it in the first place.  

People understand “you’re a racist/homophobe/bigot” as well as they understand “I think you’re wrong and here is why”.  In fact its pretty difficult not to get the difference between them, but I’m pretty sure they are more receptive to the latter.
