Well, arguably seeing DV ride away in star wars 'demanded' a sequel too, but
that doesn’t mean Lucas should have revamped the plot and given us Empire.

And I did catch the tossing down the whole thing in TS3, made me chuckle.

Now, if DV would have done a raspberry, maybe ROTJ might have been more fun....

Well, as a film, Toy Story 3 might very well be better than Return of the
Jedi.  But The Empire Strikes Back ended in a way that *demanded* a third
movie, whereas Toy Story 2 did not.

Incidentally, each of the Toy Story movies contains a detail that ties to
the relevant Star Wars movie.  In TS1, Buzz Lightyear says he has
information on a battle station that the evil Emperor Zurg is building on
the outskirts of the galaxy.  In TS2, Emperor Zurg says he is Buzz
Lightyear's father.  And in TS3, the lead villain is picked up by one of
his closest accomplices and tossed down a hole of some sort.
