But we aren't discussing voluntary contributions here, I have no problem with
those.

I don't want to put words in your mouth, but you see it as matter of fairness
or justice, not punishment. However, "fairness" is in the eye of the
beholder. The top quintile already pay more than everyone else combined. To
me that seems patently unfair.

in-taxes/

Further, I would characterize the whole "soak the rich" mentality as
fundamentally unjust. It's the jealous majority voting to forcibly seize the
private property of a minority through legalized theft.

Finally, as a general rule, if you tax something you get less of it. Isn't
this the idea behind taxing cigarettes, carbon, etc? If we increase taxes on
the rich, we shouldn't be surprised if we see less individual wealth-creating
economic success in the future. Do we really want less rich people?

We shouldn't scapegoat the rich. The idea the government can spend their
money better than they can is laughable. Governments spending is always
politically motivated and wasteful.

We should be more upset at what Bernanke is doing to our money which is
essentially a stealth tax. Inflation WILL hit the poor hardest who have no
protection from devaluing dollars.
