Re: Reject the Welfare/Warfare State

Since it is highly unlikely we will ever abolish social security and the 
welfare state, remove the income ceiling on the FICA/SS/Medicare tax.  I 
don't know the exact number it would bring in but it can't be insignificant.

Other than that I am for reducing all entitlements and don't really care if 
it is better for the economy or not than tax increases on the wealthy.  The 
former is a matter of fundamental fairness; taking money at gunpoint from 
one to give to another is wrong.  Taking more money at gunpoint from one, 
because they are more successful/lucky/whatever, is wrong on two counts.

You can come up with great rationales for doing a lot of things that doesn't 
make them right.  I'm not rich but I would certainly like to be so I don't 
begrudge anyone who is.  Of course I begrudge ill begotten gains but we 
should deal with that directly instead of punishing those who came by their 
money legitimately.  The fact that we won't deal honestly with that, (Wall 
street/bankers - anxiously awaiting Matt Taibi's Griftopia from Amazon), 
reveals how corrupt the system is, however I don't think the answer to not 
dealing directly with it is to engage in further corrupt practices.

This is a great point.   We tend to really focus on entitlement
mentality of the poor, but it is just as prevalent, if not more for
the wealthy.  They think they've earned it.
