My previous snarky response aside, in re-reading this, I don't believe I agree. If Jesus' sacrifice had "merely" resulted in our salvation from our own wickedness, that would have been plenty enough for me. These days, I no longer percieve any association between the cross and "Satan's defeat," except in the very broadest sense. The cross was about redemption, not some cosmic boxing match. This writer's POV reminds me of David Merrick's famous quip: "It's not enough for me to win.
