Yet there *is* the underlying understanding that being a "faggot" is
bad because you're acting like a homosexual. (Is that Louis using an
effeminate voice when acting out a "faggot"?) And it reminds me of how
some people want to use the word "nigger" and say it has nothing to do
with blacks. Historically, they're wrong.

In many cases, when communicating, it doesn't matter what you
supposedly mean but how you know other people are going to take it. If
I were negotiating with a foreign country, let's say peace talks,
would I knowingly use a term that is offensive to them, even if the
term is not offensive in my country?

Now before Mike steps in to say that everyday conversation is
*nothing* like peace talks, therefore my analogy is useless, I hereby
acknowledge they're *not* exactly the same but there is something to
be learned about how to not offend others. (For those that have ears
to hear. ;)
