Buffett, who runs Berkshire Hathaway Inc. (BRK.B 80.27, +0.74, +0.93%), will be one of 15 people to be awarded the medal, which is the country's highest civilian honor. It is given to people who have made "especially meritorious contributions to the security or national interests of the United States, to world peace, or to cultural or other significant public or private endeavors," according to the White House. Buffett is a longtime supporter of Obama's.
