To further elaborate, here's an example that might make sense to a
person with your sensibilities: people who create art, say, television
or movies, are fond of defending their work by saying, "If it offends
you, don't watch it." And I'm inclined to agree. It would be
disastrous if artists stopped creating work that anyone might find
offensive in the interest of being thoughtful and conscientious.

I see the same principle at work here. If I'm calling my computer gay,
and that offends you, pay no attention to me and go about your
business. (If I start calling *you* gay, that's a different story, of
course.)
