12 Days of Christmas

OK, I admit it: I have the Holiday Traditions channel on my XM radio at the moment (I gave up waiting until after Thanksgiving, and all those other self-imposed restrictions this year), and got my first dose of "The Twelve Days of Christmas" of the season. At the risk of sounding hyperbolic, why does every musical artist in the universe feel they have to do a rendition of same? It is a great song for people to be singing before the Yule Log, as a good memory song, but to listen to it being sung is an ordeal. Andy Williams even changed the lyrics in his rendition to make it palatable, but it still is a pain to sit through. Is it *that* much of a traditional song, or is it *that* popular? I wouldn't be surprised if it was popular to listen to, because I always back the wrong horse - I must b e the only person who likes fruit cake and actively looks for it in stores and have even ordered it online for myself! :-) -Fr.
