Interesting that the only one asking were essentially not people who 'lived'
there.

As for 9/11, honestly I don’t recall anyone asking "why NY, and not a republican
stronghold". I never saw the terrorists as being partisan, they were attacking
America in general, not just Bush, any more than the attacks on the WTC and the
Cole were aimed at Clinton. Heck they had a republican mayor then didn’t they?

As for why NY, that was easy. Maximum population density, and many visible
targets. Plus the WTC had been targeted once before, so it was an obvious
target.

I recall thinking at the time that I was surprised they ignored the Empire State
Building and the Statue of liberty...

<< In response to the thwarted plot, Mayor Sam Adams has floated the
idea of cooperating more fully with federal law enforcement agencies.
In 2005, the Portland City Council passed an ordinance that put
conditions on the city’s continued participation in the F.B.I. Joint
Terrorism Task Force out of concern for the civil liberties of
residents.

Now Mr. Adams said he was prepared to reconsider his opposition. “It’s
been five years since our last policy review,” he said.

The question in the headline was asked by a Japanese student, but I
couldn't help hear an echo of those questioning why Muslims attacked
New York and not some Republican stronghold.
