Re: the sluggishness of blu-rays

I'm getting there too.  I find I'm straining to make out dialogue watching 
movies and blasting the rest of the family out of the room with sufficient 
volume just doesn't seem fair.  Headphones are way too isolating for me, so 
subtitles are a great option.

Lucky you… I am slightly hearing impaired, so often I play the English titles to 
make sure I miss nothing.

Non-English films might have subtitles burned into the image, but as far as I 
can tell, you're out of luck with the English-language movies.
