Re: Opera

There are 3 over the next few months here in Dallas.
Romeo & Juliet - Gounod
Rigoletto - Verdi
Boris Godunov - Mussorgsky

Best I can tell, there are plusses with each of them.  R&J seems to be  
a bit more sentimental and melodic, which may be easier on newbie  
ears, and this is for my wife...shh don't tell.  Rigoletto falls in  
"classic" status and is probably the better composition.  Great  
reviews all around for thisone.  BG might be good for us because we  
are already used to (and enjoy) the Russian choral style and the  
basso.  And any familiar tones or melodies would probably make it a  
more enjoyable experience.

I'll probably do R&J since it is the closer date and it falls around  
Valentines Day, so I will get some credit for taking the Mrs.  If we  
love it, then maybe I will try out Rigoletto, which is really the one  
I'm most interested in.

I've been to 3 different ballets in the past year and have loved them,  
but never an opera.
