That's the word from people who have experienced it (e.g., Vietnam vets). I'm
inclined to believe them.

of POWs in Vietnam than just solitary confinement.


BTW, I think the article I linked to goes a little overboard in its advocacy,
but I do find the whole thing disturbing. Why are they treating Manning like
that?

**because he is in the army and he is in confinement awaiting trial?   This is
not a special deal to punish him, this is standard treatment.  People really
have no idea how grim military prisons are.

**I don’t know how accurate that story is, and if accurate the conditions
imposed on him are likely the highest level, but even in the Air Force I saw
conditions not too much better.
