Yes. My impression is that even when USB can match Firewire speeds it is
still limited in other ways. So the adapter will let you connect a USB drive
to a Firewire port, but that's not the whole story. Most people wouldn't
notice this, but for editing you'd be concerned more about consistant
throughput and not having the connection degrade when chaining or hubbing
devices together.

 

**yep, that's my take.  It allows the connection, but you are still
throttled by the usb 2.0 interface on the drive. 

 

Last time I went shopping Best Buy had drives with both Firewire and USB
ports, that were maybe $20 more. Don't know if you have more than one Best
Buy near you, but you might shop around to see if any have one in stock.

 

**They are getting harder to find, for sure.  Firewire has really taken a
hit in popularity.
