Something to consider, is eSATA.  It's faster than Firewire, according to
what I've read, and is cheaper.  You can get 2TB for $100 (after rebate)
from newegg.  Of course, I'll assume you need to also get an external SATA
adapter for your computer, but could still make the total cost cheaper.
