Hmmm, could be interesting to parse your use of the word "figurative" 
here.  But that might be a bit *too* tangential, even for me.

Given that Christians need to affirm their allegiance to Christ above 
everything else, I really don't think it's a smart idea to use religious 
language when venerating secular documents; we shouldn't be encouraging 
confusion among our brethren *or* idolatry among the heathen.
