I really think she got the term from Glen Reynolds WSJ column two days prior.

It amuses me when the Left cannot decide whether members of the Right are so shrewd and calculating and guilty of shadowy machination or bumbling fools. Or both. Or either, depending on the day.

On MSNBC, liberal commentator Ed Schultz also raised the idea that Palin’s use of “blood libel” was intentional, countering suggestions that she was unaware of what the term meant.

(I get the impression she is calculating but not shrewd, a touch naive but not exactly bumbling. I think she knew what she intended to convey, but it didn't turn out as she expected. And to Lee Martinez' credit, she never seems to apologize for anything.
