Just a quick update: Prognosis is still unknown. Apparently a lot depends on the results of a liver biopsy that was taken yesterday, but results won't be back for three (!) days. In the meantime, doctors are backing off *somewhat* on their dire initial assessment. They still believe it's cancer, but they're saying now that with every test that comes back, the precise diagnosis becomes less certain. Apparently the results of whatever they've done haven't been whatever they expected. So... more waiting, I guess. On the upside, dad's feeling much better, and is lobbying to go home. Last night he was fully mobile, ate in the cafeteria with us, and was in good spirits. It's clear now that the pain which sent him into the ER the other night was not cancer-related, but rather the result of some muscle inflammation in his neck. It's sort of lucky that this occurred, as it allowed the doctors to discover the abnormalities sooner than they otherwise would have.
