I really loved hating Baltar, even if I grew very weary of Head Six
during the early part of the series. It was an intriguing conceit
(which paid off in spades at the end of the series), but I think she
was overused early on.

James Callis played the Baltar character to the hilt, which was
appropriate. He's melodramatic, funny, despicable, and pitiable all at
once, which is a lot to juggle in one character. Certainly one of the
most complex and memorable tv "villains."

I confess to being utterly bored by the "Baltar cult" storyline in
season four. It was an interesting idea, and I was excited by it at
first, but nothing (or not enough) seemed to come of it. This feeling
was confirmed for me in the finale, when he unceremoniously told his
followers, "Yeah, you know what? This really isn't working for me
anymore. Buh-bye."

It just felt like everything else that happened with Baltar had a deep
(if occasionally incomprehensible) relevance to the greater destiny of
mankind, and permanantly affected who he was. By contrast, I could
totally imagine him and Six sitting around a campfire on New Earth
after ten years and laughing about the whole cult thing. "Man, what
was I thinking? Ha, ha, ha..."  :P
