worried.

I’m safe and my children are safe. I got power back at 1:00am and had phone
all along so once I woke up I got online.

 

I work in the central business district so walking home (left car at work) I
saw the collapsed cathedral and people gathered in a park that was full of
silt from liquefaction and water from burst pipes to fountains. I went past
a bakery where 1 ½ hours earlier I bought lunch. It had collapsed. Then down
the road passed a body. It was under an orange tarpaulin and there was just
a bloody foot sticking out. I thought at the time it was leaning against a
car engine sized block of fallen masonry, now I think maybe they were
crushed.

 

Closer and closer to home the damage to buildings lessened but worsened in
the roads. They got more “crinkly” and the water pipes had burst. Also a lot
of silt. My house is standing but is on an island in a lake. Still getting a
lot of aftershocks http://quake.crowe.co.nz/ 

 

This 6.3 one was 7km from the Cathedral (city centre) the 7.1 one was 37km.
This was 5km deep not 10km deep and of course being at lunch on a work day
rather than 4:30am on a Saturday.

 

I just want to throw up, and everytime I see a news report I start crying
(so news is shut off)

 

On my way to see my sisters place I went past the church and a wall of the
vicarage had fallen out, a lot of movement and damage in the hall and in one
corner of the church  the roof and walls are out of sync by about half a
brick.
