You were right about Ip Man. What a good movie. I'd had it in my instant queue for awhile but finally decided to pull the trigger with my wife out of town after seeing your facebook post about it. It was a great story with a bunch of classic elements, from a david/goliath thing to repentance with a love story thrown in. I was amazed at how well it was done too, even with rather succinct subtitles all sorts of emotion, pathos and heart came through. Well acted, directed and filmed. Don't let the martial arts stuff put you off, it wasn't what the movie was about even if it wouldn't have been a movie without it. And it was extremely well choreographed, like a ballet. I did find the propaganda aspect of it interesting. There is no love lost between the Chinese and Japanese, (the Rape of Nanking), so some if it was understandable, but the statement about the Japanese surrender in 1945 with nary a mention of Hiroshima or the battle in the Pacific - it was as if the Chinese has single handedly defeated the Japanese. It was only during the final subtitle/history screens and it didn't detract from the movie for me but it was almost comical. Highly recommended. Mike F. P.S.
