Well, I dunno. For every OS after XP, they issue hotfixes at need, and occasionally roll them up into a service pack. It isn't a bad way to do things. And they have learned well, Windows 7 is amazong. I'm inclined to agree with you that this is probably not the case. How many years did MS spend on Longhorn/Vista while Mac OS had updates year after year after year.
