Vista was much like Windows ME.  Both had very ambitious changes and
features but were not really ready.

 

And both paved the way to very strong replacements, XP and 7.

 

I did beta testing and product support for ME.  It was actually a really
good product, as long as you followed one rule:

 

Install it, and never install anything else.

 

The way they ran the virtual drive stack made it hell to add new programs
and that would blow up the hardware drivers.

I dunno, maybe they released Vista so that *anything* they released after it
would look good.

Regardless of how amazing Windows 7 is, MS did learn one thing from Vista,
and that was to not to wait 5 years to release a new version.
