Good points. At the heart were some serious differences in architecture, but for the most part you are right. Let’s give Mac some credit, their OS improvements likely drove some of Microsoft’s. I think Windows 7 was what they wanted, and Vista was just a stepping stone…a very slippery one. Was a new OS really needed to replace XP? (I still have it on a laptop and I find it as easy to use as W7). Couldn't the changes that might have been needed, wifi/networking etc. been done with updates/addons to XP? Wasn't Vista really about having something to release that could be sold as a *new* OS, and then W7 created because Vista was such a PoS and they couldn't go backwards to XP because that would require having to admit why Vista was created/released in the first place. I don't think marketing people have ever heard the axiom "if it ain't broke don't fix it" of if they have they don't believe it.
