And I hereby acknowledge that in the public sector unions, there is a wide
latitude of conditions and that not all are getting fat cat packages.

 

If I generalize too much it is just me being lazy and convenient.

 

The unions I want to see take some responsibility are the ones that
generally get the best of wages, bennies and retirements at our expense.

 

Do I think rich people should pay their share?  Of course.  But I have seen
people calling for a 60% tax rate or higher on the rich.   And that is just
insane, particularly when so many of the naughty unions will not do what the
rest of us do:  Make do.  I took a voluntary pay cut to avoid layoff.  It
paid off, and I make more now than I did.  But my benefits also tripled in
cost, so was it a total win?  You decide.

 

I will admit, that aside from my personal union experiences (AFLCIO, IAM and
Teamsters) I also have a real bone to pick with this state’s teachers
unions.  I absolutely have a bias.  But I also have reason.

 

I hope where you are the unions are more reasonable.

In fact, I’ll stand right beside you casting multiple and heartfelt
dispersions upon them.  All the union people I work with don’t possess
anywhere *near* that kind of wealth.

 

If the uber rich have amassed and insulated most of the wealth for
themselves, where else are the rest of us go?  Are you seriously suggesting
we should willingly join the rest of the “fleeced” masses, march right off
the cliff and let the uber rich have whatever is left?  Do the wealthy have
to feel any pain at all?

 

And for what it’s worth, I pay 9.8% of my gross income for my pension.  When
I retire, I will collect *nothing* from social security, even though I paid
into social security through all the jobs I had before I became a union
member.  I get a 0% match for my 401-k.  I pay in for my high deductible
health care plan, an amount that has steadily increased (and will surely
continue to do so) over time.  Don’t worry – we’ll catch up to you soon
enough.  Those health care CEO bonuses won’t pay for themselves, you know.
And if I retire anywhere near age 50, I’d be broke and homeless by age 55.
God willing, I’m working till 65 *at least*.  The “do less, make more”
stereotype does not apply to me or the vast majority of people I work with.
I have no doubt you’ve known some union folks that fit that mold, but if you
think we’re all that way, you are damn skippy I will have a complaint.

If we have millionaires in the PUBLIC sector unions, we have bigger

Sorry, since the (meaning only the bad ones) unions (meaning public sector
only) have discovered that the middle class has no wool left to be fleeced,
blaming the rich seems a bit convenient.  Everyone else has had to cut back,
why not them?  I pay a out 11% of my gross income to my health care. And
remember that I make a decent wage, many here pay a higher percent (15% or
more)since it is flat rate, not income adjusted.  I get a ½ of a percent
match for my 401k and no pension at all unless I contribute.

 

Why should I look at a public servant and not be pissed that they do less,
make more, practically cannot be fired and can retire at age 50 (less
sometimes) (directed to those unions for which those bennies applies)?  They
are getting that on my taxes.   Yea, when we are talking about government
workers, you are damn skippy I have a complaint.

Replace all of my “OR”s with “AND”s then.  I don’t blame the CEOs for
everything, but to blame the unions for everything is just as short-sighted.
Painting all of them with the same sloppy brush because they want health
care and the ability to pay their mortgage, while insisting the millionaires
and billionaires are somehow above it all, just doesn’t work.  

 

And when the ever-increasing concentrated wealth in America is constantly
insulated from the tax base, requiring the rest of us make up for it, the
connection is obvious.

The CEO increases the tax burden on what’s left of the middle class by
outsourcing most jobs overseas *because of increased demands by unions for
pay wages which have destroyed the wage gap between skilled and unskilled
labor, and unions refusal to share the burden of increasing health care
costs*….

 

You can continue to blame the CEOs for everything, but the fact is that
greedy parasitic unions share a load of blame.

 

And again, what has this to do with Public Sector unions?

tax payer doesn’t have any, he tells them to blame rich people.

with another plate of cookies), takes advantage of loopholes and offshore
accounts so his company pays little to no taxes (feasting on a crate of
cookies now), pays millions to elect politicians to keep his taxes down so
he fill his Olympic sized swimming pool with even more cookies, and finally
takes billions in bailout money from the taxpayers and rewards himself with
truckload of cookies dumped on his front lawn.

 

And then, fat and happy, tells them to blame the unions for the cookie
shortage.
