But what do they pay as a percentage of their income, when all their
deductions are taken into account?  I know corporate taxes are a
different matter, but there are a lot of corporations that manage to
pay no taxes because of all the loopholes at their disposal and I'm
sure if you are rich enough to hire a good accountant you can
drastically lower your taxes (a friend of mine who is a partner in a
small accounting firm once joked that his stay-at-home wife had 3
businesses for tax purposes).

I'd settle for leaving the rates as is but closing some of the
loopholes or deductions that are needed at lower income levels but not
at higher levels.  Actually, cleaning up some of the loopholes would
probably allow for lower tax rates and the government would still
collect more.
