Well, (a), if I was going to start homeowning at *some* point, I should 
have done it sooner rather than later, and, (b), at the time I moved out 
on my own (in 1999), Vancouver was pretty much at the *start* of a 
real-estate bubble that still hasn't died down yet.  (D bought her own 
place downtown a year or two before she met me, so around 2001, and we 
sold it last year for quite a bit more than she had paid for it -- and it 
had actually gone *down* in value over the previous three years.)
