Well, I don't want things to sound *too* cozy at my end. The reason we sold the
old apartment (which we had been renting out for three years) is because the
loss of my part-time job combined with the increased costs of dealing with our
son's autism meant we had to simplify, streamline, etc. And if we didn't have a
bit of equity left over from the sale of that apartment, I don't know how long
we could continue to live on just D's salary. (As it happens, the twins start
kindergarten in September, so I'm hoping I can find some work to do while our
youngest is in preschool.)

Oh, and in the interests of full disclosure: D works for the public library,
which means she gets her paycheques from the City of Vancouver -- and, yes, she
is a member of a public-sector union. (And if memory serves, the strike that
the library workers went on in 2007 was the first strike that the library
workers had *ever* gone on. Ever.)
