Yeah...lots of assumptions there.  One could also invest those rental  
savings and probably get a return higher than the housing return.

Here are housing prices for the last 35 years.




Oh and I do realize that is a national index and all real estate is  
local.  And past performance doesn't indicate future performance in  
any way shape or form.  It is a gamble no matter what you do.  More  
and more I'm realizing it is all out of our control and no amount of  
smart thinking or decisions really amount to much anyway.  In fact,  
lately I'm leaning more to the eat drink and be merry for tomorrow you  
shall die philosophy.
