One of the major benefits is that it should (in theory) dramatically reduce administrative costs associated with our current hodge podge welfare system. In theory, all of the current social safety nets (minimum wage, food stamps, social security, extended unemployment, disability, social security, etc) could all be replaced with the IRS and a negative income tax with guaranteed minimum income. And there would be extra benefits to removing some of those systems.
