Obama has reiterated frequently that America is not leading the war in
Libya, Britain and France are. Because, historically, Britain and France
have never made anybody but friends in North Africa. They have clean hands
and no track record in the region of trying to pull anything. Whoever
heard of Britain and France trying to, say, steal the Suez Canal from
Egypt in 1956, or de facto ruling Egypt for 60 years, or ruling Tunisia
and half of Morocco, or letting a million Europeans settle Algeria and
fighting an eight-year long war to hang on to it?
