I've been doing a lot of work related research on privacy and privacy violations 
by businesses and odds are that Lance is right.  It is extremely pervasive.

I'm not so sure this is coincidence.  I've seen what they do with data mining 
and selling and it wouldn't surprise me if Netflix sold your movie selection to 
people who target marketed you.  An this all can happen virtually 
instantaneously.  At the least I'm pretty sure the two bands were selected to 
tour together based upon the movie as part of it's pre/post marketing.  The 
Netflix Hot Tub tie-in would be a logical target market to exploit.  These 
things are all tightly controlled by corporate interests.
There is a reason Netflix shares are trading absurdly (I'd say irrationally) 
high.  They aren't making all their money from subscriptions.
