I don't see it as a "war on poverty". I see it as providing footing for people who would have none if it was taken away. I would need to see solutions presented before I was ready to say dump it. And I ain't seeing solutions. It's got to be something more than "privatize"... those solutions always seem to hinge on playing the stock market-and we saw in 2008 what happens if, say, your retirement plan is tied up in the market-it can go from full to empty in a day.
You see it as a failure. Give me a better alternative.
