As we plan and budget our upcoming wedding (April 14, 2012), I am astounded anew every day by the routine gouging and blatant artificiality of the "wedding industry." Feels like this: "Now, of *course* you aren't planning to brush your teeth with Colgate on your wedding day, are you? You're going to want bridal tooth polish, branded with your photo and the date." (boggled look from me) "I mean, there *are* ways to cut corners if you're on a budget. If you don't want your Big Day to be special or memorable, you could just use regular toothpaste, but that's just silly -- and the bridal tooth polish is only $375.00. Now, then, we haven't talked about the air you and your guests are going to breathe on your Special Day. You *are* planning to have Nuptial Air piped in, right?" Arrrrgh. It's all such a scam, and feels *so* narcissistic and artificial to me. (Patience married young and against her will in someone's backyard, no reception, no hullaballoo, so she never got to have that "big wedding" that I did the first time around. Thus, she really desires to have that "special day." Otherwise, I'd just have a quick lakeside ceremony at the public park with a handful of our nearest and dearest, then go out to the Dubliner for drinks afterward.) -- -pcg [email protected] -- dadl-ot mailing list http://mail.thehood.us/mailman/listinfo/dadl-ot_thehood.us http://news.gmane.org/gmane.music.dadl.ot
