It's been a few years since the last junket I went on, but yeah, LAX is 
not exactly an appealing place to be.  But I always wondered if it just 
*seemed* particularly bad because I was travelling between LAX and YVR; 
the Vancouver airport is a phenomenally beautiful thing indeed.
