FWIW, my comment about "make due" was not spurred by anything I saw on
this list. (Which is not to say that no one here has ever done it. :) )

I'e never seen "sup'ed up".
FWIW, Merriam-Webster says the expression "souped up" goes back to the
1930s ("souped-up" in 1931, "soup up" in 1933, which seems backwards to
me, but there you go) and comes from the fact that "soup" was a euphemism
for a "drug injected into a racehorse to improve its performance".
