FWIW, Merriam-Webster says the expression "souped up" goes back to the 1930s ("souped-up" in 1931, "soup up" in 1933, which seems backwards to me, but there you go) and comes from the fact that "soup" was a euphemism for a "drug injected into a racehorse to improve its performance". > Also you're dealing with cars, (in using that phrase) . . .
