It's not something I'm prepared to go to the mat over, but I don't think being required to provide reasonably satisfying proof of presidential evidence with the "best evidence" is nonsense. I'm using the quotes because there was, (pretty much going away due to email and electronic forms of communication), something known as the best evidence rule in american jurisprudence. Basically, a copy could not be admitted into evidence when the original existed and could be obtained. There were exceptions to the best evidence rule that involved destroyed or lost documents but those could be exacting. To hold someone seeking the office as the presidency to the same "best evidence" rule isn't nonsense imo. I do think the whole controversy was nonsense, but Obama bears a good deal of the blame for that considering that such "best evidence" was readily available. Of course there will always be nuts and kooks who even the best evidence won't satisfy, but it was nonsense for Obama to withhold the best evidence in an attempt to do a guilt by association number on the opposing party. My thing with Trump on this was that he didn't care about the guilt by association, he was willing to call Obama on it and demand the best evidence, and good for him as far as that goes. The birth certificate thing was a game and Trump got Obama to lay down his cards. Continuing in the poker analogy, sometimes you can even lose a hand and consider it a win if you get your opponent to show you his cards. It minimizes your opponents ability to bluff.
