Uh..no, not really. UI rate in 2001 when Bush came in was 4.7, it spiked to 6.2 in Jan 2002, dropped to 5.3 then spiked back to 6.5 in feb 2003. After that it trended down to a low of 4.1 Oct 2006, just before the dems took congress. It stayed pretty steady in 4-5% range until late 2007, hit mid 5s in January 2008, hit 6 in Jul 2008. Then it went from 6.1 in Oct 2008 to 9 in February, peaking at 10.6 Bush had 5 or 6 years of steady decreases after the post 911 spike, until the democrats took congress and started spinning things out of control. Oh, and I don't pay attention to approval numbers anyway. The only one that I think shows anything substantive is the approval forcongress. And I believe Obama is still well above George W. Bush approval ratings. ***last I looked Bush was out of office. And Bush at least had decent unemployment, even post 911. Actually, job losses started under Bush and continued to climb from 2001-2008. He had growing unemployment for eight years-culminating in the crash of 2008. However, the point is, Obama's approval ratings are uncertain indicators. Afterall, both Reagan and Bush got elected in spite of having low approval numbers going into an election cycle.
