I'm not sure how I'm going to any lengths to rationalize anything.

***wait for it.....

You said people were accused of being racists just for *asking* about
Obama's birthplace. I asked you to provide evidence of that, and instead you
provided examples of people accusing "birthers" -- people who are
perpetuating a cooked-up "controversy" long after it was settled to the
satisfaction of others -- of racism.

This is quite a different thing.

***bingo. :) Seriously, there are two things. One, from the first time I
heard the accusation that he was Kenyan I have heard racism charges. And
two, it does not make an effective difference. You seem to hang lot on the
fact that you are convinced that the accusations are only because these
people "are perpetuating a cooked-up "controversy" long after it was settled
to the satisfaction of others" and that just isn't true.

To provide an analogy (though I don't know why I bother anymore), this is
the difference between me spanking my child when he asks for his dinner, or
spanking him after he's asked for dinner, I've given it to him, and he's
thrown a tantrum demanding something else.

**uh...I don't see that.

"Nobody should ever be like Adolf Hitler, he was a jerk."

Anybody have a problem with that insulting, disparaging remark?

***if Adolf was here he might. And what does "be like" mean? A small
Mustache? Lank hair on my forehead?

> More to the point when is a baseless accusation a good idea?

Oh, I definitely agree that baseless accusations are never a good idea.

**Then the accusations about birthers being racists should matter.
