Race reared its ugly head on *Survivor: Redemption Island *when Philip (a
black former federal special agent?) starting acting crazy and Steve, a
former NFL offensive lineman called him on it. But when Steve called Philip
'crazy,' Philip heard 'nigger' and WENT. OFF.

The most interesting part of this is when it all comes out in their tribal
council recap with host Jeff Probst before voting someone out of the tribe
(where the phrase 'being voted off the island' comes from). Probst is
astonished at the development and then digs into it. He does a pretty good
job thinking on his feet (assuming he hadn't heard this was coming and
prepared for it in advance - this /is/ a Reality TV show). The story at 6
mins or so is fascinating. Jeff's summation at 7:00 is amazing. "Two people
from two different worlds had an argument."
