OK, admittedly that was a pretty tough field and there wasn't a meaty enough female roles in Tap to take the Oscar from Sally Field, (having seen bits of that film on tv over the years it doesn't hold up all that well if you ask me.) The winner that year was Amadeus (which was also about music! :) ). The other nominees that year were The Killing Fields, A Passage to India, Places in the Heart and A Soldier's Story. And since you mentioned actors, the winning actors that year were F. Murray Abraham (for Amadeus), Sally Field (for Places in the Heart; this was when she made her famous -- and frequently misquoted -- "You like me, right now, you like me!" speech), Haing S.
