What an interesting discussion to come back to after a few hours, rather
than you all debating Obamas words and intentions it's mine.

OK lets see if I can clarify.

Thom your family are not temporal child abusers, but in the eternal scheme
of things, if they are not actively trying to teach their children of Jesus
as Lord and only way of salvation then yes I'd call that eternal abuse. And
all non-Christian.

Luke 17:2 It would be better for him if a millstone were hung around his
neck and he were cast into the sea than that he should cause one of these
little ones to sin. In context it is part of all of us being responsible
for calling out those around us about their sinning (so they stop), then
focuses on children and then not bringing temptation to others. I'm
committing eternal abuse on you if I don't call you up on your sins
(guilty.)

Also think of all the Proverbs and Leviticus law about making sure you teach
your children.

Call me a nasty bastard if you like for thinking this way but I think
eternity is only through Jesus and it's far more important than feelings on
this planet.

And I live every day with the knowledge that my father rejected Christ right
up to the day he died and so by my theology he will be in hell unless he had
a last second repentance. I love my children so much more than I love my
father so I purposely indoctrinate them with truth.

I think it is even a nastier and total bastard thing to make it seem that
rejecting or accepting Jesus is just a personal choice and in the eternal
scheme of things it doesn't matter.

Mike gave a good quote with this "Penn Jillette, a hard core athiest, has
acknowledged much the same point - if you genuinely believe in your heart
that someone is going to suffer for all eternity; you know the means to
avoid that, but don't tell them you are a major asshole." That summarizes me
well.

Now as for the non-religion stuff that you want clarification on.. I brought
that in as a visual non spiritual example of how parents teach correct
things to their children so they make correct choices. If parents
indoctrinate their children to eat broccoli, then upscale and indoctrinate
them in not drinking driving, then why draw the line at the very thing that
saves their eternal soul?

Andrew

He failed to do so then. That was not my "bent".

So I got the clarification I sought. :\

His was a far more liberal reading of my intent than my reading of Andrew's
statement.

And you're not doing this to Andrew, going beyond the obvious reading.

I mean, really, what you asked Andrew is something akin to asking "do you
still beat your wife". It implies something rather distasteful. I don't
know what answer you were expecting.
