Because you assume that polygamy is only defined as one man many women. I think one of the reasons western civilization has succeeded is the family unit of a married couple and their children. Anything divergent from that and you're asking for trouble. This has been confirmed by studies regarding divorces, mothers with live-in boyfriends, single mothers -- all of these have a negative effect on children and, by extension, society. **I tend to agree. However since we do not study plural marriages we really cannot say how they fare can we? And also as I noted, not all traditional marriages are successful.
