Yeah, that has never been the crux of my argument as to why we shouldn't
make torture legal.

But how well torture works is an interesting thing to think about in terms
of whether the benefit is worth the cost of selling my soul. ;)

One of the reasons I think these discussions have been fruitless in the past
is that we don't have all the facts. We posit generalities and scenarios but
we don't know what really happened or all that happened.

For example, let's say these techniques did lead us to bin Laden. How many
people have we used these techniques on? And how many of these people have
we subsequently released? This wouldn't have something to do with the high
recidivism rate we've seen from Guantanamo releases, would it? Who knows.
