While I agree it was never a fair thing for him to have taken hits for, I also don't buy that it was a choice between sitting it out and running out like a madman. And Bush defenders always seem to frame it that way. There were other options to avoid scaring the kids. But you cannot turn back time and there are far worse choices he could have made and the one he did opt for is understandable.
