Re: This is what scares me more than anything

Try this analogy.

I pay for a trash can to be picked up each month. Let's say my neighbor has
a trash compactor. The city decides that his being so responsible means
that he does not have to have a trash can, since he is so much more
efficient he can use mine. And now that he tosses his trash in with mine,
mine is overflowing, so the city decides I need a bigger can, and charges me
more accordingly.

All so my neighbor can get an government sponsored atta boy for having a
trash compactor.

Meanwhile, by the ton, the amount of trash at the dump is pretty much the
same, the only difference is that he gets free ride and I get charged more
to pick up his lack.

That's what Bruce suggests is *fair*. I made a bad decision by not buying a
compactor, so I should not only not reap the benefits of that, I should pick
up the tab for someone else.

If I have a flawed sense of good and bad, then you two have a flawed sense
of *fair*.

Heh, maybe, but is it really preachy to point out facts? I didn't even say
Karl's sense of fairness was "wrong" (though it's easy enough to guess my
view), only that it seems very strange to me.

you breathe cleaner, the gas you buy less expensive, and your dependence on
hostile nations less severe? So strange to me.
