Nope. I would regard it as intrusive. But again, you phrased one of your objections that it did not encourage "right" behavior. And sicne the current taxes do encourage "right" behavior, you are not only fine with them, but don't mind raising them. (after noting that they don't work, ironically). -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Bruce Geerdes Sent: Friday, May 06, 2011 1:42 PM To: DADL (off topic) Subject: Re: [DADL-OT] This is what scares me more than anything On Fri, May 6, 2011 at 2:15 PM, Karl Swenson <[email protected]> wrote: > All so my neighbor can get an government sponsored atta boy for having > a trash compactor. > > Meanwhile, by the ton, the amount of trash at the dump is pretty much > the same, the only difference is that he gets free ride and I get > charged more to pick up his lack. > > That's what Bruce suggests is *fair*. Oh, I don't know if it's "fair" in the ideal sense. But what if the alternative was to attach RFID tags to each piece of your trash so that the govt can bill you by the exact amount and type of trash you create. Oh, and by the way, the govt now knows exactly what you're putting in your trash can, stored in a central database. And your trash bill will be 50% higher than it needs to be because of all the technology and overhead involved. You'd be more happy with that "fair" scenario?
